What You Need to Know About Back Pain

One of the things I love most about being able to spend so much time with patient's during their appointments is the amount of educating I can do for them.

Learning what's really going on, what a specific structure does, what's truth and what's a myth, and what are things they can start doing on their own to address their pain often leaves people feeling empowered and confident in their rehab.

So, I wanted to start doing the same thing through a blog to hopefully help those of you who have not yet experienced our services.

We'll start with a banger... low back pain.

Low back pain is one of, if not the most, common musculoskeletal injuries.

The truth about back pain is that it's infinitely complicated...but the treatment for it does not have to be!

There are many "classification" systems out there that try to categorize types of back pain and specific treatments for that type of back pain.

Unfortunately, studies comparing these classification systems show that none stand out amongst the others.

The good news? Generalized treatment approaches still reign supreme.

This means general exercise, hands on treatment, education and temporary modifications to activity can be extremeley effective at improving back pain .

And yes, even chronic back pain that's been a problem for years.

If you've worked with us before, you know that most of your treatment revolves around getting stronger and moving better.

While some providers may tip toe around loading the low back, we go right after it with graded exercises that eventually progress to lifting heavy things.

Chances are, if you're stronger, more mobile, and more flexible in the hips and trunk then you'll have less back pain. Sounds pretty simple...because it is.

It also helps to have a guide helping you understand what's OK, what's something to avoid, when it's a good idea to speed up, and when it's better to back off.

Because it's so common, low back pain is one of the most recurrent pain complaints we handle so you cold say we're pretty confident in treating it.
